Vattenfall

A Swedish utility wholly owned by the Swedish state, with integrated positions in Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands and a presence in the UK, Denmark, Finland and Poland. It reports four segments, Customers & Solutions (which includes heat), Power Generation, Wind and Distribution, so wind is its own segment rather than a line inside a renewables division. That segment runs onshore and offshore wind farms across Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and the UK, beside a generation business built on hydro and nuclear power. In 2016 it sold its German lignite operations to the Czech energy company EPH and its financial partner, with the support of its owner, the Swedish state. Its articles of association, based on a 2010 decision of the Swedish Parliament, set the objective of a market rate of return from a commercial energy business.

Capacity is net of ownership stake: a 50% JV counts half. Gross exposure (full nameplate of every project held): 16.4 GW. Some stakes are undisclosed, so net GW is a floor.

Ownership history comes from the transaction database; the portfolio above is the current snapshot only. "Joint" stakes are the consortium total (per-seller split not disclosed) and are excluded from the stake-weighted GW figure.
