Terms of use

Hafrok is published by Hjörtur Páll Hjartar in Denmark. Using the site means accepting what follows. In short: read it, quote it, cite it, build your own thinking on it. If you want to republish the data itself, say hello first.

What you may do

• Read and use it in your own work. Analysis, investment committee papers, teaching, journalism, internal research. No permission needed.
• Quote and cite it, with attribution. Figures, short passages, screenshots and charts, as long as it is clear the number came from Hafrok and a reader could find it again. Please cite the data date shown in the footer: the numbers move, and a figure without its vintage is not checkable.
• Download the workbook. The whole-database spreadsheet is there on purpose, with a free registration. Use it for your own analysis.

Early access

Hafrok is in early access. Reading the project pages, the facts on them and the sources behind them is free and open. What registration opens on top of that, Hafrok's outlook on each project, the full project record, the transaction database, the workbook and Hafrok Monitor, is free while early access lasts. Early access is a period, not a promise. It may end, and some of what registration opens may then carry a price; neither has been decided. If it happens, every registered reader hears it from me by mail, with a date, at least 30 days before; readers registered during early access hear first and get founding terms; and anything you downloaded during early access stays yours under these terms. I cannot promise that all of Hafrok stays free, so I am not promising it.

What needs a word first

Not prohibitions, and not a hard line to make you go away. They are the cases where a conversation makes the outcome better for both of us. Non-commercial uses are usually fine at no cost. Using Hafrok's own data as the basis of a commercial product or service may need a licence, and a licence may carry a fee. Write to [email protected] and expect a straight answer:

• republishing the dataset, or a substantial part of it, as your own dataset or product;
• redistributing the workbook to people who could have downloaded it themselves;
• passing on what registration opens (Hafrok's outlook, the full project record, the transaction database) in bulk to people who have not registered;
• building a commercial service whose value rests on this data;
• automated bulk collection: scraping every page rather than taking the workbook, which is slower for you and harder on the site.

If you register

• One account per person. Registration is free while in early access, and personal: your own name and your own address. Please do not share a sign-in with colleagues; each of them can register in a minute.
• For your own use. What registration opens is for your own work and your organisation's, on the same terms as the rest of the site: read it, quote it and cite it. It is not for republishing or redistributing in bulk.
• Hafrok Monitor and Hafrok Commentary. The Monitor lists what moved on your list in the week before, as it stood on the day it was sent. The pages are the reference: a fact may have been corrected since, and the page shows the correction. The Commentary is my opinion, not a fact on the record and not advice.
• Leave whenever you like. Delete your account on your account page, at once and without asking. How your details are handled is in the privacy notice.
• Closing an account. I may close an account that is used for abuse, such as registering other people's addresses, automated collection, or passing a sign-in around.

Data that is not ours to license

Hafrok stands on public datasets that carry their own terms, and those terms travel with the data no matter what this page says. Where a figure or a map layer comes from the Global Energy Monitor, EMODnet, Marine Regions, the Global Power Plant / grid datasets or OpenStreetMap, that licence governs. Several of them are Creative Commons Attribution, which means you have rights we could not take away and would not want to. Each one is credited on Data sources & licences, and every fact on a project page cites the specific source behind it.

Sources, quotations and copyright

Project pages quote short passages from primary documents (consent orders, auction results, company filings) because showing the working is the point of the platform. Journalism and paid research are different: those sources are cited by publisher, title, date and link, and never quoted, because the words belong to whoever wrote them. If you follow a link to a news article, that publisher's terms apply to you, not ours.

What Hafrok is not

• It is not investment advice. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy, sell or finance anything. It is research. What you do with it is your decision and your responsibility.
• It is not a guarantee of accuracy. The platform is built to be checkable. Every figure carries a mark saying whether it was verified against a source, derived from other fields, or modelled by Hafrok. But sources disagree, records go stale and mistakes happen. The site is provided as it is, without warranty.
• Forward-looking figures are models, not predictions. Expected completion dates and outlook weights are the output of a stated method applied to the evidence held on each record. The method is published; the future is not.

The practical bits

• These terms may change as the platform does; the version in force is the one on this page. Any change to what registration opens, or to what it costs, would be announced by mail to registered readers with a date before it took effect. In force since 23 October 2026.
• If Hafrok is ever sold or passed to another publisher, these terms and the privacy notice go with it; registered readers are told before it happens, and nothing changes in what your registration is used for without asking you.
• Danish law applies, and the Danish courts have jurisdiction.
